After talking about this for 19 months, Mia and I are finally roommates. We have been wanting to do this since February 2022 when Eliana left, but decided to wait until the fall… once we got our second year assignments we put it on hold again … and now here we are as roommates at last.
I moved in four hours before Mia, but we lost a big chunk of time because the check in process was not ready upon our arrival and since we are in Wendall House, we did not have keys at the Threshold office. Mack met up with Mom, Dad and I and even took us to public safety, who very kindly let us into my room. It was even unlocked when we got there. Unfortunately, I dropped my ID in my basket and thought it was lost so we had to hold the door open for each other. One thing that was unique is that Mia’s bed had an alarm over it, so I did not have to think about which bed I wanted, which was a relief because I can get really indecisive at times.
The Custodial staff even came to help set Mia’s bed up with equipment that she would be able to use if the fire alarm goes off. Not long after that, Mr and Mrs Jeppsen and Mia showed up and I even decided to hide so that they could have their hour with her because the room is really small. After the Jeppsens left, we went to dinner and a welcome party with the whole campus. It was a lot of fun. We were on Doble Quad and it was the first event that had occurred outdoors.
Eliana has finally returned after 19 months and I even got to meet her roommate, Nora, who is from Brooklyn, New York. We even exchanged phone numbers with each other in case she has questions about Eliana as a roommate.
After the welcome party, we had our first hall meeting and then we met back up with our own parents so they could say goodbye to us. The next morning, the Jeppsens came to drop a few more things off with Mia and they even took a picture of us to send to Mom and Dad. I even got to meet their dog, Ruby, who is not allowed to come into the dorms.
Amy has also done a lot of orientation events for the Bridge and Transition year students. An important lesson that I have learned is to not go to the store when I am hungry because then I will buy more than I need. Yesterday, we met up with our friend Taylor and went to Zoe’s to get smoothies. Some of the events that Amy has planned are travel training, budgeting and meal planning.
